Chandrakala, a student of Class 10, has been swimming since the age of 5 and comes from a family of national and state-level players. She has won 3 gold and 2 silver medals in Junior Open National and State championships. Her elder sister Bhumika is a national swimmer, and her younger brother Siddharth is also a state player.
Chandrakala wants to make her career in swimming and also wants to help other youths in the state become good swimmers. She said that there should be a swimming pool and academy in their village to support the aspiring swimmers.
CHANDRAKALA SWIMS NON-STOP FOR 8 HOURS
Chandrakala started swimming at 5.10 am in the pond of Purai village after reciting prayers, and she continued swimming till 1.10 pm. She registered her name in the Golden Book of World Records, becoming the latest addition to the record-breaking sports village Purai.
To set this new record, Chandrakala practiced for 10 to 12 hours daily. Her coach, Om Kumar Ojha, said that the whole village supported her, with one group monitoring her diet and another monitoring her sleep to ensure there was no shortage in her exercise.
When Chandrakala came out of the water after swimming continuously for 8 hours, everyone congratulated her. Dr Manish Bishnoi, Asia Head of the Golden Book of World Records, announced her achievement, and State Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu awarded her with the Golden Book of World Record certificate and medal.
Presently, there are 103 young swimmers in Purai, who have experience in national and state games.
