Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has filed a defamation case against AIADMK's Edappadi Karuppa Palaniswami, the Leader of Opposition, state BJP chief K Annamalai, over their remarks linking the former to an international drugs trafficking racket.
The public prosecutor filed the criminal defamation suit on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
"The accused was driven by political animosity and has maliciously attempted to defame the honourable Chief Minister's reputation through the defamatory allegations," it said.
The criminal suit further stated that while the Tamil Nadu government as well as MK Stalin are "open to constructive criticism founded by factual evidence", the particular allegations pertaining to the link to the drugs' racket are "inherently defamatory and solely intended to tarnish the Chief Minister's reputation without any genuine public interest".
